“Even if poor people do have good ideas they do not have the means or resources to implement them.” Dr Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute & Author of the End of Poverty
An Opportunity:
An opportunity to establish research targeting developing world issues at a field station that has western facilities and comforts. The tropical location is world class and stunning. The island has easy access, the potential for modern communications expected in today’s world, and abundant research sites covering urban, rural, coastal and marine issues. These features will make It a potential draw card to get researchers who have strong social and environmental values to work in a developing country that would otherwise be too ‘hard core”. As for a country, where better than Indonesia that has doubled its population to 248 million in the last 40 years?
If an appropriate donor is found, the island could be gifted to a more resourceful organisation to take the project on or we will simply develop it for tourism.

A lot to discuss
Our proposals and design are flexible and are more a topic for discussion with University Students, Professors and Directors ...
What is a super innovation?
Ray Avery's Super Innovation will soon hit the three Million mark in saving the sight of three million people! A simple innovation in which Ray & other developed a lens at a cost of a few dollars as opposed to a hundred or more dollars. For this effort Ray has been awarded a 'nighthood'. Sadly there are thousands of others out there that are sitting, needing a spark to ignite. This is our Purpose.
The Problem:
For Poor Countries, their land, sea, air, energy and fresh water is diminishing.
“POOR COUNTRIES REPRESENT MORE THAN SIXTY PERCENT OF THE WORLDS POPULATION
BUT GET LESS THAN FIVE PERCENT OF THE WORLDS RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT!
With high populations there has never been a greater time for poor country problem solving and the development of sustainable innovations.
The goal is to get students and their Universities to research and implement actions to solve poor country problems, and in a way that not only lifts prosperity but also sustainability. Poor country problems are significant and of all manner of topics. Students with ‘poor country’ thesis and inventions are relatively few and this is the target group ‘Komodo Research Resort’ seeks to host, empower and have poor people working and assist them with the realities of this world.

Would your University / NGO 'Front line - Bungalow & Island Base?
As a businessman & environmentalist I realise the biggest way I can help is sparking & empowering 'Environmental & Humanitarian Entrepreneurs. There are so many talented, unique individuals & university students who are sitting on amazing dreams, skills & ideas, for the large part they are stuck in ruts, my dream is to provide a supportive & empowering front line base, for these often poor & rich individuals to come to reflect, learn and spark their non profit projects into action using modern technologies to do so. My plan is to give NGO's / Universities their own site / bungalow building a collaborative resort academy for nonprofit projects.

Komodo Eco Base: is a place people can stay from free to higher quality overwater bungalows with a collaborative goal of allocating free bungalow plots to Universities & NGO's who see this as a arm for valued students to be able to trial their innovation or research frontline with the facility volunteers providing on going project support if needed.
What is a Environmental & Humanitarian ‘Non Profit Project’ Incubator:
For those that study the world's issues, the health of the planet is troubling, and while there are many BACKLINE University & NGO people trying to help, the solutions for poor countries are nowhere near as good as they could be. As a startup 'Non Profit Project' manager I have sparked many startups with no money using modern technology - in fact thanks to technology I can save a life of a person everyday with ease, but now it is time more of us should do this sort of thing. The ease that new technologies and networks to do significant activity is amazing but sadly few foundations utilise these gifts. The complexities, hurdles, dishonesty in poor countries are many, and our perceptions in the way of how to help is still in the 'Florence Nightingale' mindset where we think the solution is sending wealthy volunteerism to save the children or implement a 'Green Solution'.
While poor countries represent 2/3rds of the planet, they only get 5% of the planets research & development. New technology is here, it opens huge new doors to achieve great things & while 'Western Country Universities' are full of poor country ideas and universities are seen as places to create solutions for the planet. In reality the ideas and will of the students is strong, but few innovations grow from the BACKLINE development stages making it to the frontline - a professionally focussed & set up FRONTLINE BASE could spark into action some of these 'Big Change' Solutions. The problems why these 'projects of good' are often due to small judder bars ... energy, grit, funding, empowerment, a low cost way to test theories & innovations, no front line facilities to grow, test & adapt ideas. The idea is to attract the planets best people and ideas (not just students) and teach them how to drive their non profit business.

A Possible Vision for part of the island:
To establish a first of its kind research field station that incorporates a strong research and poor country problem solving focus in an over the water, resort style setting.
A key purpose is allow innovators more front line understanding, for the research to be compelling, ‘in-your-face’ that creates sensible & sustainable solutions that are simple, affordable and easily maintained. The goal is for pragmatic solutions to help solve pressing local issues that can be transplanted to other developing nations. The vision incorporates sustainable development as a cornerstone value. The facility is passionate about what it does and ‘like minds’ can collaborate on projects in a supportive research environment.
Unique Feature of 'Komodo World Heritage Park':
Little Komodo (Komodo Kecil) is located at the gateway of the Komodo National Park, next to the main town and port Labuan Bajo, Flores in Indonesia. The World Heritage Maritime Park was a recent finalist in ‘the 7 wonders of the Planet’. Komodo is famous for many things including the Unique Kamodo Dragon and other terrestrial and marine life. However, the stark reality is within the neighbouring villages and cities many people struggle for the basics of life. Children are dying from poor sanitation and some villages lack easily accessible water. The marine environment has increasing pressure from pollution and food. Resources are getting depleted and people have a poor understanding of what to do to improve their situation. In other words, Lombok has many of the same issues many millions of people have in other parts of Indonesia and the world.
What's Stage One? Building Stage by Stage?
The stage one Design can be easy - the permissions can be easy - the support is strong - the costs are low - the builders are available -
A Resort like tropical Island Research Station that invites 'intelligent, resource abundant' Western Students to work with 'Passionate Poor Country University Students' on humanitarian & environmental projects & innovations.
A location that inspires poor country innovation:
1) To give away 20 - 30 Water Front Plots to different Universities from all around the world. Then build resort style over the water bungalow’s and a modern in the field research facility.
2) The goal is to provide a facility that when completed will attract thousands of innovative people to come to focus and test out their environmental and poor country innovations. We feel this special low cost facility, will allow a mixture of researchers to collaboratively empower important innovations.
3) We feel that this facility will empower students and Universities to research, test and develop more simple poor innovations and solutions and that some of these could develop into 'Super Innovations' that could lift the lives of thousands.
